Waihi sent three teams to Cathedral Grammar early on Thursday morning. As we came closer to Christchurch the excitement built, especially for the Colts Cricket Team as this was their first fixture of the year.
Eventually we all arrived at Hagley Park and the 1st XI and Colts teams left the buses to start their fixtures.
The Tennis team then travelled a short distance to Hagley Tennis Centre.
The tennis team played 12 matches against Cathedral, but found their opponents from Cathedral too strong.
After the fixture we combined teams and played alongside the Cathedral players in a ‘King of the Courts’ battle, which the boys really enjoyed. Harry Smith and his Cathedral partner were the ultimate winners.
The Cricket teams both enjoyed success, with the Colts winning with overs to spare. The 1st XI had a harder game but also won.
All the boys played well and displayed great Waihi spirit throughout the fixtures.
On the way back to school we stopped a few times, and the highlight was when the boys stopped at ‘Cookie Time’.
Boys, sports and cookies equal a ‘great day’!
