The Waihi School Cross Country took place on the afternoon of Friday 2 June.
The boys ran a new course of 2.5km for the juniors and 3 km for the seniors. The course included woodland running, two river crossings, running through a field that is a dried river bed with a lot of loose rocks, the usual fields and hay bale jumps. The boys described it as a ‘real cross country course’.
The day was sunny but cold and the rivers were even colder. All the boys took part and enjoyed the course, and the barbeque sausages after, if not the running.
Although the course was not spectator friendly, all who attended saw some fantastic finishes to the races.
Most of the races were close and fiercely contested between the houses. Everiss came out the winners at a very narrow margin.
A big thanks must again go to ‘The Friends of Waihi’ who organised the barbeque, fed the boys and spectators, and put in a lot of work behind the scenes.
