Chess has proven to be a popular addition to the timetable this year and when told of our first upcoming competition, 62 boys put up their hands wanting to play! Unfortunately organisers of the Chess Power Regional event held last week at Mountainview High School only had a limited number of places for each school and so Mr Short selected a mixture of boys from across all year groups to participate. For most of the boys it was their first ever chess event and much fun was had by all.

The Juniors finished a creditable second place in the teams event, and  congratulations  to our  Intermediate chess team  who gained entry for the National Chess Inter-schools Finals to be held in Auckland this October through their performance finishing in clear first place.

Well done to Lachie Short who finished in first place in the event, scoring a perfect seven wins from seven games. Luke Skinner joined him on the podium clinching third place on 6 out of 7. Both Lachie and Luke have gained invitations to the National Individual Championships in Auckland.
