Cathedral Grammar Winter Sports Fixture

19th September 2018

Wednesday 15 August 2018

This year our annual winter fixture with Cathedral Grammar from Christchurch was played with only one. This match was between the Waihi 2nd XI Hockey and the Cathedral Grammar 1st XI Hockey, and was played at the Ashburton hockey turf.

It was a very tight game that saw Cathedral Grammar score first in the first half, then Waihi scored two consecutive goals to go into half time 2-1 up.

The second half was a very even game with both teams having attacking opportunities.  It was Cathedral Grammar that took their chance to lock the game up midway through the half. They then scored the winning goal with little time left. Cathedral Grammar won the game 3-2.

It was a great game by two evenly matched teams, the game was also great for our eight boys from the Mid Canterbury region as this meant many of their parents were able to come and support.

Thank you to Mr James Wood and Jacob Suddaby for umpiring the game. They both let the game run well. It was also great to have the support of Ashburton Hockey who accommodated us for the morning.

Mr Shaw
