Throughout the first half of Term 3 all boys were busy at work crafting speeches for the school speech competition. Boys were able to choose from a variety of topics including Advertising influences our food choices, What I would tell my “ “ year old self, Teaching Grandma how to text etc. Following class speech competitions, year group finals were held and then the ‘grand’ finals to ascertain our overall winners.
In the Year 5/6 section, Riley Lennox (pictured below) came out on top and went on to take out first place at the South Canterbury final at fortnight ago. Awesome effort.
At the time of writing, Will Goldsbury will be flying the flag in the Year 7/8 section and defending the title he won last year as a Year 7.
The overall standard continues to improve each year and while there are always some nerves around these performances, every single boy at Waihi shows the courage and confidence to speak in front of their peers. A great skill to have for the future.
