27th November 2018
On Thursday 15 November the boys were once again all charged and ready to compete in our Athletics Day. The morning rotations ran smoothly with boys giving their best in discus, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m springs and the cricket ball throw. Regardless of their individual abilities, boys gave their all to earn points for their house. There were even two records broken, with Mitchell Johnson beating Tom Walsh’s 2002 discus record by 2.19m and Wil Donaldson taking Oskar Grant’s 2017 high jump record by 2cm.
The afternoon programme of graded races once again saw the boys pushing themselves to the limit, seeking to go that bit further and cross the finish line as quickly as possible. The encouragement provided by house groups and spectators was fantastic, with every race starting and ending with loud cheers of support.
Due to the teacher strike at the local primary schools, there were a lot of siblings in attendance for the day. This meant instead of the usual one sibling race, we were treated to an abundance of sibling races!
Congratulations to the following boys:
Junior Champion Wil Donaldson
Intermediate Champion Oskar Grant
Senior Champion Ryan Caldwell
This year Orford was the winning House for both the Standards and Athletics Shields.
