Pyne House (our boarding house) is run by the Housemaster who has responsibility for all that goes on in the house. There are two tutors who help out each evening. A key part of the boarding experience is the care provided by the Matrons.
Russel, Leonie and their three children; Riley, Ella and Cassidy, arrived at Waihi from Johannesburg, South Africa last year and have made a big impression on us all. Russel was a keen schoolboy sportsman, playing tennis and cricket, as well as representing his province in hockey. Russel has a passion for boys-school education and believes in the importance of teaching children grit, resilience and self-confidence.
Judy is our weekday Matron. She is a mother of four and a grandmother of five, so she has had vast experience with children and they are her passion. Before coming to Waihi School, she worked as a Clinical Associate in the Surgical Ward at Timaru Public hospital. When she is not at Waihi, she enjoys spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, as well as gardening, volunteering, craft, reading and knitting.
Louise joins us on the weekends. She is a mother and a grandmother, who has an air of grace around the boarding house. She loves nothing more than supporting the boys in their weekend activities and looking after them. During the week, she operates a clothing store with her husband, and enjoys reading, various social activities, volunteering and good food.
