Our Faith

Waihi is an Anglican school, and in a world where traditional values are being constantly challenged and eroded, an education rooted in a solid Christian values system is as relevant now as it ever has been.

Since the school’s foundation, boys have attended regular services at the historic Anglican church of St John the Evangelist; built in Winchester in 1879, the church was moved in 1972 to the school grounds.

The week starts with a Monday morning chapel service, setting the tone for our week ahead, placing emphasis on good manners, courtesy, considerate behaviour, graciousness and respect.

The chapel is also used for special services such as Anzac Day and even for weddings and christenings.

Boys are encouraged to participate in chapel duties, for instance serving as sacristans or singing in the choir. On other occasions the choir may visit local communities and churches to sing or to support South Canterbury events.
