Mr Tim Silva

I am a lawyer specialising in agribusiness and property law, having studied law and commerce at Otago University, graduating in 1995. I was elected as a parent representative to the Waihi Board in 2019.

My wife Rachel and I live near Ashburton, where we enjoy fattening steers and developing waterfowl wetlands on a lifestyle block.  Our twin sons, Hugo and Ralph, started at Waihi in 2019.

My governance experience includes:

  • Trusteeships and/or offices for various community trusts including Ashburton Licensing Trust, Advance Ashburton Community Foundation, and the Mid Canterbury Rural Support Trust.
  • Advising numerous charitable trusts, companies, co-operative companies and advisory boards, including family and large-scale agribusinesses.

Outside of work, I am a keen outdoorsman – especially fly fishing, hunting and mountain running.  I enjoy giving Hugo and Ralph and friends the outdoor experiences that I thrived on as a child.

I am passionate about education, health and development, having grown up as a member of the Dunedin Study that was founded by my father in 1972.  This gave me direct insights into child development and has installed a lifelong interest –

It is an honour to serve the Waihi Board with fantastic members, passionate, capable and dedicated staff, and a culture to be proud of.  Most importantly, seeing the Waihi students thrive makes it all worthwhile.
