Mr John Rolleston

I was admitted to the Bar in 1983, and practised law in New Zealand before heading to London and France where I was involved in shipping and commodity trading, returning to New Zealand in 1988. I am a founding shareholder and director of Timaru based biotechnology company, South Pacific Sera Ltd, which is run from our family farm at Blue Cliffs and from our production site in Timaru.

I am a Fellow of the Board of Governors of College House, a Canterbury University Hall of Residence for first and second year students, and served as Chairman of their development committee from 2011 to 2017 successfully raising funds for a new dining hall and boarding house which were opened in 2017. I hold a number of Directorships, including Genesis Private Equity, DC Turnbull Ltd and TracMap. I was a Director of PrimePort Timaru from 1998 to 2013.

Having been appointed by the Waihi Association as an Old Boy Representative in 2008, I have been Chairman of the Waihi Trust Board since 2010. My boys, Henry and Robert, who left in 2011 and 2013 were third generation Waihians. My father, an old boy himself, was one of the original Trustees who bought the school from the then Headmaster, Mr Stone-Wigg, and was Chairman of the Board when Mr Prosser was appointed. Needless to say I am passionate about what Waihi can offer young minds. Waihi gives boys the chance to find out what really excites them, whether that be in the classroom, on the sports field or in one of the many extra activities Waihi has to offer. These experiences open the world for our boys and gives them the confidence to take on the challenges life has to offer. As a board it is our job to ensure, through good governance and strong fiscal management, that the Headmaster has the resources he needs to provide such an education while maintaining a safe and family orientated environment. Waihi really is a boy’s education for life.
