 The Waihi School Trust Board is seeking a strategic, inspirational and experienced educational Head with a passion for independent education to lead Waihi into the future. The Headmaster/Principal will preserve and enhance the traditions, values and uniqueness of the school whilst ensuring the ongoing delivery of quality, future-focused and inclusive learning and teaching. The holistic education experience, the enriching and successful boarding atmosphere, and strong team spirit are key features of Waihi. Maintaining and enhancing relationships with students, staff, parents/whānau, past pupils, other independent and state schools, and the wider community are central to the role.

Waihi School is an independent, co-ed school located in Winchester, South Canterbury, providing primary education to boys and girls from years 4 to 8.  Due to one of the team's retirement, we are looking for a passionate new team member to come on board. Waihi requires a cook with a proven track record of creating and delivering high-quality fare that children love.  The kitchen is truly at the heart of the school, especially for boarding students!

As a boarding school, the kitchen needs to be staffed 7 days a week during term time. A roster will be discussed with shorlisted candidates, but will involve work every second weekend. Key duties include preparing, cooking, and serving delicious meals and snacks for students and staff, as well as collaborating on menu ideas.

Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • A strong history in cook/kitchen roles or a passion for home cooking
  • Experience with large-volume cooking and baking is a bonus
  • The desire to contribute to menu design
  • A flair for cooking healthful, tasty food that children enjoy
  • Maturity, with great communication skills and a sense of humor
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, and a ‘can-do’ approach
  • Flexibility with hours when needed for calendared functions and to cover leave/illness
  • Must be able to work weekends
  • Valid Visa to work in NZ
